About Melanie Crisp

I currently reside in Belton, South Carolina. I am employed at Piedmont Post Acute in Piedmont, South Carolina. I have practiced as a nurse for 17 years. I have experience in long-term care, post-acute care, ambulatory surgeries, and hospital settings. I have a passion for caring for those who cannot care for themselves. I am dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care to all of my patients. My journey as a nurse has been filled with valuable experiences and meaningful connections. Join me as I share my story and passion for nursing.

My Nursing Philosophy

While taking courses to obtain my BSN degree, I discovered my worldview. God has called me to be a nurse and care for those he has created in his image. To know and understand that he trusts me enough to provide me with the talents to care for the people he created is humbling and brings me great joy. I have developed mentally, spiritually, and professionally as a nurse through researching and studying materials related to my area of nursing. I have gained an incredible amount of knowledge that will assist me in understanding disease processes so that I can care for each patient adequately. I have grown spiritually throughout this journey and now understand that God has called me to be a nurse to share my passion of caring for others. I chose nursing as my profession because I have a desire to help others live a respected and dignified life.

Nursing consists of theories and models that guide care for patients in a variety of situations and settings. Myra Levine’s conservation model relates most closely to the nursing I provide for my patients. Levine’s model helps a nurse to assist the patient in achieving the ultimate goal of promoting the patient's adaptation and the ability to maintain wholeness (Ungvarsky, 2020). As individuals age, their senses weaken or are lost completely. With age comes vision loss, hearing loss, loss of touch sensation and some loss of taste just to name a few. My goal as a nurse is to help individuals maintain a sense of dignity and respect while adapting to the changes of aging. Promoting an individual to be as independent as possible assists them to not lose hope in themself.

I believe the core of nursing stems from qualities such as kindness, compassion, respect and sharing the love of God with each patient. The focus of nursing is to promote health, well-being, and as much independence as possible for the individual. My vision for myself as a nurse is that I will treat everyone with dignity and respect. I will remain kind and compassionate. As a nurse I want to remember that this is my God given talent and my purpose in life is to share the love of God with each person.

To live out my philosophy of nursing, I must respect the autonomy of each person and remember my patient’s health and well-being are my priorities no matter their socioeconomic status or background. My patient’s family should be treated with respect even if the stress of the current situation causes them to lash out or have a negative attitude toward the health care staff. I will assist my fellow health care professionals and maintain the integrity of a team that works together for a common goal. As a nurse, it is difficult to step back and care for myself, but I must take time to prioritize my health so I can provide exceptional care to each of my patients. God placing the call on my life to be a nurse and care for others will not be taken for granted. I respect myself and others enough to provide care the way I would want care provided to myself or my family.
